The Scorched Carpet
The Scorched Carpet for solo cello or viola, was written by Adrian Bell in memory of artist and scholar Dr Ibtihal Samarayi (1964-2015) who worked tirelessly to raise awareness about the plight of refugees. In 2000 Dr Samarayi produced an evocative image of the destruction wrought by war on home and family life. The image shows a burning carpet, into the fabric of which are weaved charred, fading portraits of the artist and her family.
Profits from sales of The Scorched Carpet go to Dr Samarayi's estate.
